Recette du gâteau à l'orange de France

What you need

·        1 hour at home

·        1 non-stick cake tin, round, 23cm in diameter + cooking spray

·        1 cooling rack

·        1 serving plate

·        3 medium size Valencia oranges

·        2 lemons or 3 limes

·        3 eggs

·        90g unsalted butter

·        150g sugar + 100g for the syrup

·        170g self-raising flour

What you do

·        Grate the rind of the 3 oranges

·        Squeeze the juice of one and a half oranges

·        Melt the butter in a saucepan

·        Spray the cake tin with cooking oil

·        In a bowl, mix the melted butter and 150g sugar with a whisk

·        Add the eggs, one by one and mix well

·        Add the orange juice and rind and incorporate the flour

·        Mix until smooth

·        Pour the mixture in the cake tin and cook in a moderate oven for about 35 minutes or until the point of a knife comes out clean.

·        Prepare the cold syrup by squeezing the juice of the remaining one and a half orange and the lemons or limes, and mix in the sugar. Stir from time to time to make sure sugar is almost dissolved.

·        When cooked, remove cake from oven and turn immediately on to a cooling rack.

·        Slowly pour half of the syrup on exposed side of the cake, then turn cake onto a serving plate and slowly pour the rest of the syrup on it.

·        Eat when cool. It will keep at room temperature for about two days.
